Berlin Assessors Finalize FY2027 Property Values
Berlin assessors finalized fiscal year 2027 property values and fielded a pointed public dispute over excise tax billing.
Board of Assessors · Meeting of August 24, 2026
Berlin assessors finalized fiscal year 2027 property values and fielded a pointed public dispute over excise tax billing. Assessing staffer Linda Barisha told the Board of Assessors, chaired by Kevin Pond with member Roger Bradley, that FY2027 values are "all set and finalized" and certified by the state Department of Revenue, with tax bills expected around November. Resident Rebecca McDonald challenged a $7.46 excise tax bill on a car she said she owned for only 12 days, arguing the correct amount should be closer to the state's $5 minimum.
"Why are we fighting over $2.46?" she asked. Barisha said the calculation follows Registry of Motor Vehicles data and pointed McDonald toward the Appellate Tax Board if she disputed it, while agreeing to review the file again. The board also discussed a pending valuation dispute with an attorney for Northbrook Village, with a follow-up meeting set for September 14, and approved its July 27 minutes unanimously.
