Finance Committee Cuts Warrant Request to $207,000
Berlin's Finance Committee trimmed a special town meeting staffing and fuel request from $247,000 to $207,000.
Finance Committee · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Berlin's Finance Committee trimmed a special town meeting staffing and fuel request from $247,000 to $207,000. Chair Scott Schultz and members Mary Porter, Heidi Pitard and Rita voted 4-0 on the amended total after cutting fuel oil, gasoline and diesel lines and zeroing out a proposed hours increase for the administrative assistant to the town administrator. Porter warned the panel was "overshooting the runway" on new full-time positions, while a staffer identified only as Lisa countered that understaffing has created "a revolving door" in the town administrator's office.
The committee also recommended $92,000 for landfill-capping compliance work, $170,000 for a 1870 Town Hall septic replacement, $20,000 for Complete Streets construction oversight (passed 3-1, Porter dissenting), $267,040 to demolish two former fire stations, and $66,852 for a second ambulance's ALS cardiac monitor.
