Committee approves finance director contract

School Committee · Meeting of July 22, 2026

BERLIN — The Berlin-Boylston Regional School Committee approved an employment contract for Ellen Whitmore as director of finance after a closed-door negotiating session. Members voted 5-0 to approve the contract following executive session held under the state's non-union personnel negotiation exemption. The committee also opened a first read on four policy updates covering parent advisory councils, student timeout and seclusion practices, and medication administration, with a vote planned for August "right before school starts." A district staff member identified only as Janelle presented the changes, saying the new seclusion policy "does provide us with a lot of clarifying information regarding what is a timeout, what is a seclusion." The meeting closed on a 5-1 vote to adjourn, with the presiding chair noting the motion passed "even though I vote not to adjourn."
