BERLIN — The Berlin Energy Committee stepped back from pursuing a Green Communities grant for a $600,000 heat pump project at Berlin Memorial School after consultants reported a payback period of roughly 280 years and oil savings of just 770 gallons a year. Chair Tim Wysocki said he had "significant doubts on the viability of this project," and the panel agreed to instead explore the Massachusetts School Building Authority's heat pump accelerator program, opening to applications in January. The committee also weighed a $15,000 to $20,000 design study for a library HVAC system and reviewed a regional school equipment-electrification grant, submitted September 3, that carries a net cost of $7,033 to the Berlin-Boylston School District after $21,100 in state funding.
Wysocki and member Amy Grenier voted 2-0 to adjourn at 5:53 p.m.
