Berlin Conservation Commission adds member, pays $9,850 for cleanup

Conservation Board · Meeting of September 2, 2026

Berlin Conservation Commission adds a member and pays $9,850 to finish storm-damaged trail cleanup. The commission voted unanimously to appoint Michael Gaisfort as an associate member and to approve the $9,850 invoice, drawn from Community Preservation Act funds, for clearing trails at Clark Conservation land after a major blowdown. Members confirmed a $7,500 appraisal is underway on a 10-acre parcel adjacent to Clark Conservation land, governed by the town's Chapter 61A right of first refusal, with results expected within 60 days.

"You can't pay more than the appraised value," one member said of the pending purchase question. A separate, grant-funded forestry work order for Ball Hill Road Conservation Area, billed at $85 an hour plus materials, was tabled pending details on the grant's spending cap. The commission's open space account grew by $41,000 and its donation account, seeded by a $2,000 gift from Mike Sawyer, now totals $1,605.55.
