Berlin COA Reviews Budget, Debates Newsletter Cost
Council on Aging · Meeting of September 30, 2026
Berlin Council on Aging questions whether its $1,000-a-month newsletter is worth the cost. Director Melissa told the board $13,388.97 remains of a $19,189 state formula grant after roughly $6,000 in spending over three months, with the newsletter mailed to 612 households and emailed to about 35 more. "We should have a list of anyone over 60 in this town, and we can't get that list," Melissa said, describing gaps in the town's senior data.
The board approved its prior minutes unanimously and discussed turning an underused storage room into a future coffee and sitting area, pending locks from the highway department. Members also weighed dropping SHINE Medicare counseling in favor of an outside counselor after what Melissa called inconsistent past guidance. The committee adjourned at 6:05 p.m. after a unanimous vote.
