Berlin COA Reports No Votes, Full Fall Calendar

Council on Aging · Meeting of July 29, 2026

Berlin Council on Aging maps a packed fall calendar but takes no votes amid thin attendance. Only three of seven members, Vice Chair Lori Fearebay and members Robert Blair and Kate Bliss, showed up July 29, with Karen Shultz, John Barrett and Derek Chaves absent. The council's director reported $13,564 in revised transportation grant reimbursement, down from an original $23,500 award after the senior van's delayed December launch, plus an expected $15,312 in state formula grant funding for fiscal year 2027 based on Berlin's 957 residents 60 and older.

Events planned through December include monthly Veterans breakfasts, an August 19 ice cream truck stop, a $5 wreath-making class and a $5 Thanksgiving meal capped at 40 people. Members also discussed recruiting volunteer "ambassadors" to reach isolated residents at Northbrook 1, where the director said, "we've not been able to connect in two years on getting into that room other than a resident letting us in."
