Berlin Select Board unanimously appoints new Town Administrator and eyes October Special Town Meeting. The board voted 3-0 Monday to approve an employment contract for Michael A. Tucino III and appoint him Town Administrator, contingent on a successful background check, with Chair Lisa J.

Wysocki authorized to execute the contract. The board also voted unanimously to waive the town's right of first refusal on the sale of an affordable housing unit at 59 Wheeler Hill Road and to adopt an updated agenda and packet policy. Interim Town Administrator Jeff told the board that holding a Special Town Meeting in October — which members reached general consensus to pursue — would require short-term borrowing of approximately $2 million for roughly 60 days at an estimated cost of $13,000 to $15,000, because the semi-annual tax collection normally due in November would be delayed until late December.

"The bills would absolutely be late," he told the board, echoing a problematic delay residents experienced two years ago.
