Planning Board Advances Zoning Rewrite for Town Meeting
Planning Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Berlin Planning Board confirms a statewide small-lot ballot question won't reach town, advances zoning rewrite. Consultant Ron told the board the state grant funding his zoning bylaw review is essentially spent, and recommended splitting the rewrite into multiple Town Meeting articles rather than one, warning that bundling "has a tendency to overwhelm the voters at town meeting." A proposed overlay for Solomon Pond Mall remains stalled pending anchor-tenant decisions from Sears, J.C. Penney and Macy's.
Resident Jim Royer raised a zoning dispute over Brian Clemmer's overnight tow-truck parking, which could bring fines of $300 a day; the board set it for the October 13 agenda. The board voted 4-0 to accept minutes and, later, to adjourn.
