Board of Health · Meeting of February 3, 2026

Berlin Board of Health greenlights tight tank sewage plan for auto parts office, pushes hazardous waste day to 2027. The board unanimously approved a 1,500-gallon tight tank arrangement for the office at 76 Coburn Road, home of Berlin Auto Parts, after the presenting engineer identified shallow ledge and vehicle storage as eliminating all conventional septic options on the lot; a state-required deed recording must occur before a formal permit issues. The board also confirmed it will meet Friday, February 6, with a hazardous waste disposal company that has served Marlboro and Hudson but cannot schedule Berlin until spring 2027 at the earliest, roughly seven or eight years after the town's last such event drew fewer than 40 residents.

Members debated funding the event through the town's revolving fund, a direct appropriation, or resident fees, and discussed requiring advance registration to avoid cost guesswork. Separately, the board directed staff to hand-deliver a formal letter to the Berlin General Store, whose food service permit lapsed October 31, warning that failure to submit the renewal application and fee within five business days could trigger a cease-and-desist of operations.
